This sounds more like an artifact of the length of the time period before
those pumpings than a phenomenon of secretion changes.

i was just skimming quickly through posts when this caught my eye. w/ my 1st,
i got caught up in a vicious pumping cycle. he was in nicu, so i had to start
it to keep things going. when he came home, i had to keep pumping to help w/
engorement, etc... and i thought having a freezerful of milk was almost
required. for the 1st 3 mos of his life after the colostrum was gone, every pumping
yielded what looked like lemonade. it had the barest scrim of cream on top. i
got copious amounts and felt/saw 2-3 letdowns per 20 min pumping session, but
my milk was always lemonad-y. after reading all i could find back then, i
concluded premie milk was just different and as long as he seemed to be growing
fine, it must be fine. then i had my 2nd and my milk was always as thick and
heavy as whipping cream. when separated, i had as much as an inch and a half of
cream. i've always assumed my conclusion about the gestational ages at birth =
the difference in milk - is that not something that is possible? it always
made sense b/c #1 was always a skinny stick baby but reached milestones ahead of
schedule and #2 was a fat little roly poly boy. (who reached milestones even
more ahead of schedule).

~jacqui gruttadauria, who is looking for distractions this snowy morning in
michigan after her father in law died suddenly and unexpectedly the night
before last from a heart attack. (after just receiving a clean bill of heart health
from a cardiologist the very day before his death when he went in for
tightening in his chest!)
