Diane, I wonder if her symptoms aren't related to perimenopause?  Given her age and symptoms, that would be my first guess.  I think I would have gone off the deep end if I had been asked to handle a 2 1/2 year old and perimenopause at the same time.  There is lots of information on the Internet.
