Several years ago I heard Susan Ludington speak on Kangaroo care, and
she talked about the difference in temperature regulation between
mother's and father's chests. She mentioned that since Dad didn't down
regulate the chest temp, when baby was warm enough Dad wouldn't be able
to sit still. She called it the "seat of the pants" factor, a phrase I
have used frequently over the years when teaching parents about this.
