I would encourage this mom to have this baby examined by an ENT. The pearls
or ridges on the hard palate, plus the weird uvula, plus the inability to
latch, could be markers for a submucosal cleft. Babies with submucosal
clefts may have a very bony palatal midline, or even notched.

histopathologic analysis. Cleft Palate Craniofac J 35(4):351-8; 1998.

Submucosal clefts can be associated with chromosomal defects. So I hope she
has this checked out. The most recent baby whom I suspected had one had the
bifurcated uvula, and a funny noise when he tried to nurse, as though the
suction was being lost inside his mouth.
