Laurie,
I do not have access to syringes, so I use a periodontal syringe, cut off
the curved tip end, and reverse it so that the smooth end faces mom. I
have had success with it, and in fact just this past month I have worked
with a mom with inverted nipples who really loved this solution. It is
quicker and easier than a breast pump, and mom can control the suction
and the length of time she holds out the nipple. Her nipples are now
protruding normally without "therapy" anymore, at 2 wks+ pp.

As to the liability issue-- I haven't spent much time worrying about
this. I suppose that there is some risk involved with any similar type of
change, but this one is fairly innocuous, IMHO. Have you all seen the
latest story on use of prescription drugs for non-approved use?
Practitioners are not bound to approved uses for drugs, and have freedom
to apply them to other situations, which is a controversy on its own.
Our changes seem small in comparison, though we are not licensed
practitioners dealing with prescription items. Any lawyers care to comment?
