Sadly, tomorrow I will be visiting the mom of a 6 week old who wants
help to begin the weaning process. She has had mastitis almost
continuously since birth and has been treated with three different (full
rounds of) antibiotics. She has also taken a homeopathic remedy called
phytolacca. Her mastitis migrates from breast to breast and has not
appeared in the same place twice. It is the type with red, hot breast
tissue and high fevers. All in all, this lady has been seriously ill
since her baby was born and I can't see any risk factors other than,
perhaps......

I am curious as to how many of you have seen this kind of thing and if
you have asked any of the women who present this way whether they were
strep carriers and treated during labor? My concern is, of course,
antibiotic resistance cause by prophylaxis. Any ideas on that?
