<Have any of the subscribers to this list ever heard of "The Center for
Breastfeeding"?  What is it?  Who runs it?  Who is Jerry Smith, their
director of medical programs (what medical programs), or Karin Cadwell (at
least she is IBCLC)?>

The Center for Breastfeeding is part of the Health Education Associates Group
which is run by Dr. Karin Cadwell and Edith White, MS(don't have exact degree
information here, sorry). Both have been conferred with IBCLC as part of the
original group who wrote the defining criteria for the IBLCE.  They are very
credible and knowledge able ladies.  HEA and CB both are sponsoring
organizations for the International Symposium for Human Lactation, a
conference which occurs yearly since 1995.  I must agree with some of your
comments re: mailing list, great cost, etc.  I've gotten several such letters
in the past few years.  Reminds me of those "WHo's WHo's solicitations I
receive as a subscriber to Working Woman and/or Working Mother"  (National
Assoc of Female Executives also solicts members for these types of
"outreach")
Maybe another Lactnetter will be able to supply more detail re: Karin and
Edith.
