Jack: I can't believe that I am offering YOU a suggestion...when all else
fails--gentian violet, fluconozole, Nystatin, dietary changes, laundry and
all personal hygiene items in vinegar, and partner being treated--Nizoral
(oral ketoconozole) given for 4 weeks usually does it. I know that docs
are hesitant to prescribe Nizoral because of potential liver issues.
Monitor the mom's liver enzymes and watch baby for reactions. Also of
major help, try oral clotrimazole (Mycelex) trouches dissolved and swabbed
in baby's mouth. All of this needs to be done at the same time that mom
is trying to modify other risk factors (including fatigue and sugar
consumption), plus she needs to do deep breast compression while nursing to
work everything through the ducts. Good Luck!
