Susan, my May column in the Star Gazette (Elmira, NY) newspaper was
also called *Breastfeeding is green.*
http://www.stargazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080515/MOMS02/305150060/1246/FAMILIES
or

Unfortunately, the editor cut the last couple of paragraphs, (together
with my bio and disclaimer - a new editor I need to break-in, <G>) so
I will share them here:

>Did you ever wonder what it takes to make formula?

According to a joint statement by La Leche League International and
the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action In Celebration of – World
Health Day, April 7, 2008: Protecting Health from Climate Change:

"Human milk substitutes—whether they are cow-milk based or soy-based
formulas—require heavy use of farmland for feeding, grazing, and
harvesting. Not only does this tie up farmland from being used to
produce foods that can't be supplied at the breast, but it also leads
to serious deforestation and soil erosion problems as well."

So breastfeed, because it's not nice to fool Mother Nature!<
