I think this is still how it is, in most (bigger?) North American hospitals,
unfortunately.  I know when my youngest was born 18 months ago, even with my
carefully crafted birth plan, this is basically what happened to me (we only
got half an hour together, not a full hour).  I'm still very resentful....
