a news article about the protective effect of breastfeeding in AJN 2002.  Multinational research shows breastfeeding decreases risk of breast cancer, says relative risk of breast cancer is diminished by 7% for each birth and 4 % for each year breastfeeding....But it goes on to say "Acknowledging that it's unrealistic to expect women in developed countries to adopt patterns of childbearing and breastfeeding typical of those developing countries, researchers do recommend that women consider breastfeeding for longer periods."  Longer than what ? 2 wks, 2 mo and so on???  I am very proud of my younger relatives who nursed, pumped, taught, worked and BF their babies well past a year!  Pat in SNJ
