The piece that Jan is referring to was the front page of the March 1995 AAP
News....the quote from Dr. G is:
" Lactoferrin (found in breastmilk) is important to protect
the infant's intestine from E. coli growth. If a baby gets one to two
bottles of iron fortified formula to supplement breastfeeding, (the iron in
formula) might saturate the lactofferrin allowing E. coli to grow."
This is reiterated in Ruth's book,,,,,
the chart that they give which shows rda, weight, age and iron
fortified and non fortified...across the board ther is more than the rda in
the iron fortified...sometimes as much as 2x....
age/weight (kg) iron fortified rda low
