Catherine writes of a 6 month old baby: "Mom said that the
infant was "very attached" to her and "always wanted to be held and fed by
mom". This baby was diagnosed with severe attachment disorder and mom was
advised to wean.

This is totally bizarre. I looked up attachment disorder just to make sure I
wasn't crazy. A child is diagnosed with attachment disorder when s/he is
UNABLE to make an attachment--most often seen in a child who does not have a
stable, loving caretaker who responds to his needs. What part of this baby's
behavior relates to this? It sounds like he was securely attached to his mother and
wanted to be with her above all others--normal 6 month old behavior. By taking
mom away from him I would think the "experts" would be setting him up for an
attachment disorder. It would be fascinating to learn more about this case,
but I can't believe there is ANY psychological reason to stop a 6 month old
from breastfeeding.
