I was reading these posting with interest since my 4 year old son is going
for an evaluation with an ENT in two weeks for his tonsils. The tonsils
are extremely enlarged and interfering with his nighttime breathing. He has
never had a strep infection, just a few colds and two ear infections. His
pediatrician evaluted the videotapes I did of his nighttime breathing and
thinks a tonsillectomy is likely.

Sooooooooo, the only question I had about breastfeeding him post-op was
whether or not the hospital in question would be taken aback by a four year
old nursing and I had planned to preempt the health care practitioners (as
I did with my OB/GYN when the topic of mammograms came up and I could tell
it hadn't even dawned on him that I might still be nursing) and overwhelm
them with info before they ever had a chance to raise any objections or
make stupid comments.

I know of one child at my son's school who had a tonsillectomy (she's
almost 3) and she bounced back and was at school after one day resting at
home. So, is there a difference in the response to the operation depending
on age?

Now you've got me worried about dislodging blood clots, something I had not
even considered before. Can anyone tell me what is the evidence on this
happening or is it just a theoretical risk?
