I don't think that it would be out of the realm of possibilities that for some children - not all, not even many, just a few - nursing while lying down might be a risk factor for ear infection.  In our efforts to support breastfeeding I don't think that we should dismiss possibilities out of hand simply because they do not fit into our perceptions of how things should be.  If we are in favor of "evidence-based practice" then we need to look at all the evidence.  Yes, it may just be coincidence.  No, it does not mean that mothers in general should be cautioned against nursing their babies while lying down.  But it does mean that we need to consider the possibility that in some cases, it may be a factor.  Never say never.  IMHO.
