Hi All,
Having been indoctrinated to using nipple shields as the last resort, I am
wondering about some info I've heard second hand from an enthusiastic but
inexperienced friend. She said something about Paula Mieir's recent study of
preemies that advocated using nipple shields as a first step to getting these
little ones to breast and that they switched easily when they got closer to
their due dates to mom's breast. Apparently the info was not yet published
and I wasn't able to hear the talk or get a tape of it. Anybody have any more
on this? Like all of us I just don't want to do any harm and assist in
creating optimal outcomes for some of these little ones.
Thanks for any info you may be willing to share.
