Not only you!!! This is my favourite mantra. To feel it is one's place to
give anyone permission to do anything sounds arrogent to me.
Just been supporting mum of 13 week old baby who was feeding on the end of
the nipple, sleeping through the night and using a dummy during the day. Had
been advised to start formula feeds as weight gain too slow - she wastold
her milk wasn't good enough. But nearly as bad as that, poor little mite was
being treated for constipation. Guess what? After adjusting her position and
attachment, throwing out the dummy, and waking for night feeds baby is now
'pooing for England' and much heavier with not a drop of formula in sight.
Surprise, surprise.
Another mum has PN depression. Has been told that she's 'not that bad' but
was given loads of advice like to try and stretch the baby out for longer
between feeds ( it wont hurt her to cry for a while) and let someone else
give her a bottle so she can rest. Mum, agreed that she didn't have any
feeding problems and its just health professionals trying to find solutions
to her depression by changing the feeding - as if that was going to help. I
feel so angry for her. Luckily she's going to see her own doctor this week
who will, hopeful;ly be more understanding.
