Breast-feeding Rates Double but Remain Low Among Black Women

Findings from a CDC report suggest that the proportion of breast-fed
infants has increased from 55% in 1990-1993 to 67% during 1997-2000, in
accordance with the Healthy People 2010 objective of 75% for mothers of
all racial/ethnic groups.

Although breast-feeding initiation nearly doubled among black mothers
during this time (from 25% to 47%), rates remained lower than those of
their Hispanic and white counterparts (75% and 69%, respectively).
