Hi all,

the other day I was watching a show on German telivision on birthing. The
kind of show where various couples are followed in the days before, during
and after labour and delivery. One family of Italian origin got my special
attention. A few hours after birth baby was going to be bathed by the father
in a ''Tummy Tub'', a kind of bucket where the infant is bathed in an upright
position. Mom expressed some milk in a cup (quite some milk, too, I estimate
at sight it was about 50 mls or so) and poored a couple of tablespoons of it
in the bath water (and had her 3-4 year old son drink the rest).
Does anyone know of a tradition of using fresh breastmilk in baby's bathing
water? And why it is done?

Warmly greeting,

Gonneke
