So I was rather surprised to read all the techniques for storing and
freezing (ice cube trays etc) discussed in this forum.
Of course for emergencies it is useful to have a couple of bags sitting in
the freezer - it must be better than formula.

Exactly the important point....frozen breastmilk is still leagues better
than ABM.

I always encourage moms to use fresh pumped EBM when possible, then cooled
next, then frozen next...understanding that there is an order of preference for
maintaining the EBM in optimal condition. I do make it clear that I still
consider ABM to not be in the same ballpark EVEN when comparing with frozen
EBM. Not even close.

Moms going back to work fulltime in the US is inevitable and working with
them to teach them how much better EBM is than ABM, and exactly why, is so
important to help raise the breastfeeding rates. I've also found that when moms
really grasp all the details of what ABM is made of and why EBM is so much
better, they take on pumping at work as if it were a mission of the greatest
cause. Which it really is.
