This is my first contact with lactnet. I'm an IBCLC - I work in a 21 bed
midwifery unit, including managing a Day Assessment Unit for breastfeeding.
I also work in private practice.
I saw a client today who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and her regular
medication is ORADIS, which I hadn't heard of. She is currently
breastfeeding her 3rd infant. Her rheumatologist advised her to wean her
first at 6 weeks, and her second at 1 week, to commence medication for her
rheumatoid arthritis. Her current babe is almost 6 weeks old and she feels
she needs something stronger than panadol, but is reluctant to continue BF
whilst on medication, even though she has recently been advised by her
maternal/child health nurse that Oradis is safe whilst bf.
Any suggestions? Is it safe? Is there a safer medication? If it is safe,
how do I reassure her?
