This drug is discussed in Tom Hale's book, Medications in Mothers'Milk.
If you don't have this resource, I urge you to get it ....it is very
helpful.

Subject: Can you help with info on Effexor?

Hello Everyone! I am needing drug information for a mom to be. She is
concerned about a certain medication. I have permission to post parts
of her email here. Please respond soon as she will be having baby in
about 2 weeks. The actual name of the drug is Venlafaxine or Effexor XR
. My psychiatrist and ob/gyn told me that there is still not enough
information about this drug to determine whether or not it will effect
the baby yet. But, they do know that it is definately found in the
breastmilk. I have already started to taper off of my medicine. Instead
of 150 mg., I am now taking 112mg, and then after a week, I will be
taking 75 mg. My baby is scheduled to be induced on April 1st, so I need
some answers fast. That is all I know to do at this point. This medicine
is a very hard one to get off of, with severe withdrawl symptoms, but
I'm trying my best to do what is right.

I would like to thank any one that takes the time to help this mother.
Breastfeeding is very important to her.

Thanks a Ton!
Carla
