Dear Wise Ones,

Our clinic was contacted by the mother of 1yr old, IVF twins, who has been
diagnozed with probable GIGANTOMASTIA.
During pregnancy her breast growth was rapid.
She delivered c-sec 33rd week due to IUGR.
Within 30 hours of delivery she experienced extreme engorgement.
By 48 hrs her breasts were purple and hot.
Treated with antibiotics and was then able to start pumping.
Sinufed x2 daily. Alternated hot & cold compresses.
Her breasts became so heavy that she needed 2 people to help her out of bed.
After 10 days the hard areas of the breast began to soften.
6 wks pp an 8cm abscess was removed.
The hard areas in her breasts lasted for 5 months during which time she bf and
pumped until weaning at 9 1/2 mos.
She always pumped post bf "to keep my breasts under control".
Her breasts are now smaller than prepregnancy and she has "a lot of skin".

Her main concern is whether she is likely to suffer from gigantomastia with
future pregnancy/ies.
Is there treatment available to prevent recurrence?
HCPs who treated her during the gignatomastia experience did not know to
whom to refer her.

Perhaps you do.

All input welcome.

Thank you
