I always tell moms to give some breast milk at each feeding if they are
getting a limited amount each day and most of the feeding is formula, all
being given in a bottle.  Breastmilk has components that protect the GI
tract as well as all the other good stuff.  I tell them it is best not to
mix in the same bottle, mainly because if the baby doesn't take it all, some
of the breastmilk is wasted.  I tell them it's preferable to feed breastmilk
first (some each feed) and follow with formula.  I seem to remember the iron
in formula binding some of the iron in breastmilk if mixed in the same
bottle.  Can anyone comment on this and what is different if they aren't
mixed in the same bottle but in the stomach when given consecutively at one
feeding?
