Just as a kudos to one of our own, I would like to paraphrase an article from
WIC Matters (Sept 2001.  Sorry, but I just got it.)

"Von Brown was sworn in as mayor of Tchula (Mississippi) in a public ceremony
Saturday, July 28, becoming the first black female Republican mayor in the
history of the state of Mississippi as well as the first former lactation
specialist to hold that public office.  Von worked for several years as the
Lactation Specialist for the WIC Breastfeeding Promotion Program in Holmes
County."

(interviewer)  "What similarities between your work as mayor and your work as
a lactation specialist do you already see?"

(Mayor Brown)  "A lot!  Serving, counseling.  There are so many needs. . .
.These are some of the same goals we had with the Breastfeeding Program."

(interviewer)  "Anything you learned as a LS that you think might help you as
mayor?"

(Mayor Brown)  "Being a nursing mother, you come to understand basic needs.  I
hope to nurture our community to its highest potential."

(interviewer)  "Any plans to make Tchula the first breastfeeding-friendly town
in MS?"

(Mayor Brown)  "Absolutely!  We'll put up signs reminding moms they can nurse
anywhere and if they want a little quieter place to nurse their little ones,
there'll be a room in City Hall just for them."

Congratulations Mayor Brown!
