Not the same case obviously but... I received a traffic ticket while
pregnant with my 3rd child. ( I know that is awful but I was bringing my 5
year old daughter home from the ER and it was late in unfamiliar streets and
I got pulled for speeding 35mph in a 25mph zone) Court was just 2 weeks
after his birth and I did not want to leave him home for an unknown amount
of time. So I brought him. When I got there the clerk told me that if he
made one sound I would have to leave because I was really not allowed to
have him there. Anyway I said I would leave if he made even one sound.
several officers kindly mentioned the same as I was going into the
courtroom. As luck would have it the officer who ticketed me was not early
on the docket, and I was there from 8am until 1pm still waiting. My baby
never made a sound, he just nursed and slept, the judge had been hard on
everyone that day and I was really getting worried that I would not be able
to change another diaper quite as quickly and quietly as I had already.
There had even been someone with an older child who had been made to leave
because of disruptive behavior. Finally the judge called the clerk over and
whispered something and as the clerk walked through the court room to me...
Well I was really getting sick because the ticket was for $75.00 and I was
hoping to get it lowered or dropped. She asked my name and then had me (
and my baby) approach the bench. The judge smiled her first smile of the
day and said what a sweet baby I had and then she looked at my ticket. She
dropped the charge and she told me that I had done well keeping him so quite
for such a long day, I should go feed him. I just smiled back as I told her
that he had been eating all along. I was really glad that she was still
smiling when I left.
