My mother has an anaphylactic reaction to bananas. Even touching an unopened
banana or the odor can create problems for her. My oldest son (exclusively
breastfed >6 months) is also allergic to bananas- his first food. Every time
we tried them, he got diarrhea and a burned bottom. It took us a while to
realize it was the bananas. He also has really bad asthma and being around
bananas still causes him to wheeze and he has always avoided them- even as a
young child. He didn't seem to be sensitive if I ate them although he was
sensitive to oranges/orange juice when I drank it. He can drink it now but
doesn't like it. Banana allergies are not as uncommon as you'd think. Cathy
