Every time I hear that comercial on Barney, I want to scream! Please,
please, please for the sake of my two PBS-watchers and their zealous, cultist
mother, call, write, and complain to the producers of Barney. Unlike the
Beatrix Potter sell-out, this advertisment is something new to the producers
and if they get enough complaints, they may rethink this underwriting. Other
quality shows on PBS do not accept funding from companies with unethical
marketing strategies or unheathy products. Shows like Sesame Street return
profits from merchandising back into production of the show.
I spoke to the person responsible for corporate underwriting. She is
unconvinced that toddler formula is unhealthy and advertising it to children
is inappropriate. This is one of the way companies are getting around the
WHO Code. We are hearing reports of mothers giving toddler formula to
infants because it is cheaper. Those of you out there that are so eloquent,
Kathy D, Marsha Walker, etc, please write or call and share with us your
response. The more complaints the better. She told me that although they've
had a "few" complaints, they felt that they were too few to be significant.

Thanks, all and Happy New Year! Getting Barney formula-free is my new year's
resolution!
