Patricia, I like the way Jack Newman puts it - if there were no 1 percentile
babies, we would have to move the whole growth chart up! Some babies have
to be there, or the chart isn't valid.

My second was always 5th percentile, my first was 10th. I went to my LLL
Leader in tears after being told my 10 month old who gagged on any food
would need to be supplemented with formula rather than just keep on bfg
every 2 1/2 hours (while there I had to change my poopy baby in the Leader's
bathtub - she suggested this was ample proof my daughter was getting enough
food)! When I showed the public health nurse my son's growth chart and said
her rate of growth was the same as his, she replied that the growth chart
was all-important, not family history. I'm 5' 1", husband is 5' 8". Took
us until the youngest was 2 yrs to find a doctor who said, "What do you
expect? You're not giants."

Of course, now little Cara is the little star of her gymnastics class!
