Catherine,

Re: "tongue movements shape the palate" This is true to the greatest degree
after birth.....the tongue is a mighty muscle....especially when not "tied.

BUT...there seem to be factors in-utero and/or during growth and development
that lead to bubble/high/narrow &/or normal shaped palates AT BIRTH as noted
by Joanne Burke-Snyder's research and the late Dr. James Bosma.

he abnormal shaped palates have bone that is soft and "waxy"
....SO....palatal manipulation and/or torquing of the sphenoid bones may
indeed broaden and flatten the palates to help increase success with
lactation which will additionally place widening forces on the palate.
Unfortunately, it seems from the LACTNET answers, the info. I seek may be in
an area not generally explored and/or practiced....at least in the U.S.

Thanks to all the Lactnetters that replied.

Smile-On,
DCP
