In "Live Free or Die" New Hampshire, USA, there is no seat belt law for
adults, although they were one of the first states to mandate infant car
seats (thank you Deborah Prum who did the work and the testifying).
There is no motorcycle helmet law either.
There are lots of Vermont/New Hampshire jokes. "One farmer says to the
other, did you hear the news? They figured out your farm was in Vermont, not
New Hampshire, when the surveyor come through." "Oh thank goodness, I
couldn'a taken another one of those New Hampshire winters."
So we sometimes defend to the death our "right" to make choices in clearly
dangerous situations.
