Hello fellow Lactnetters - a mother I have worked with asks this question:

"basically we have been doing really well nursing (we werent able to exclusively nurse until 7.5 months) and since then have graduated to exclusive nursing, to nursing while sitting up, to nursing while out and about to an actual nursing session last week when at an appointment, in the sling. that was a miracle! he has been doing great but got this very small tooth about a week ago and regardless of how i position him, he tends to bite me. I have attempted not to scream but at times it has taken me by surprise and hurt so badly (im bleeding on my right side which is where he nurses most). im concerned about hydration b/c he has a slight cold right now. please realize babies with Down Syndrome are not "typical" children and a slight cold for them can land them in the hospital quickly (his entire respiratory system is basically much smaller than typical and he also deals with aspiration (slightly and he deals well but it is still a concern when anything respiratory occurs). My other children always got the hang of not biting me but i am a bit concerned re: ++++ due to his medical issues. He is very interested in his new tooth and will often just bite at it. I have purchased almost every chew device known to the Western world but have yet to find anything he prefers. I do have a nipple shield but seriously want to try to avoid it, as exclusively pumping for 7.5 months pretty much sent me over the edge and I would rather all those devices remain in the attic. of course, i will do what i need to do."

this baby did have an ULT revision, after which point he was able to bf exclusively - no TT was noted.

any suggestions, tricks, ideas, will be greatly appreciated!

TIA
