The Tanita BD-815U is the scale that has been recommended here.  I got very lucky and bought one at a reduced price from a LC who decided to leave private practice.  I have been very happy with it.

I don't think I could manage without the carrying case.  It is really big and I wouldn't want to bang it around.  If you are creative, you might be able to make something to use to carry it.
