A nurse manager in Canada has a situation she needs help with. She is very committed to making the hospital more "baby-friendly" and has written a breastfeeding policy for the hospital.

In the policy it states that when a breastfeeding mother is admitted to hospital her baby is also to be admitted under the attending physician. A physician is challenging this and the nurse manager is looking for other hospitals that may have encountered the same thing or are using the same recommendation successfully.

(I have searched the archives and found a few posts and policies regarding babies re-admitted or not discharged yet, and moms will stay in hospital while baby is there, but no examples of the reverse where baby is healthy but mom is ill)

Any policies or examples out there?

I will make sure all replies are forwarded to the nurse involved.
