How could one reach a consensus unless one knows what is really going on at
the cell and organ level? I would think that if the breast is enlarging
greatly during pregnancy (this seems to be what commonly occurs, no?) that
this is proliferation of new cells, i.e. hyperplasia. In other words,
alveoli and ducts proliferate.
If this occurs during a lactation then I would think this would be
enlargement of existing cells, ie. hypertrophy. But do any of us really know
exactly what is happening in these cases? Maybe serial ultrasounds or scans
to see what is happening?
