bonnie, i am glad that your child did well on a three hour schedule. however,
i would never recommend it to anyone. in fact, most of the problems i see with
preemies that don't come directly from medical problems (other than being
premature), are from the hospitals putting those babies on three hour
schedules, and mother continuing them at home. unless they are receiving
something other than breastmilk, they can't possibly be lasting three hours
between feedings, and waiting for obvious signs of hunger can be even more
dangerous with a smaller baby. i generally advise very close feedings during
the day, and no more than three hours once during the night, with a very small
baby.
