Yes, Pat, I remember that program, too.  You're right.  Ferber's book and
his actions on the program were not vague or subject to misinterpretation.
His words, his intent AND his actions were all extremely clear.

I completely agree with you - he may have changed his mind, but it's
rather disingenuous of him to try to blame the controversy over his
previously clearly stated opinions on *misinterpretation*.  Puh-leeeze.

I was a single mom with a breastfeeding baby in my bed when I was first
introduced to his book, and his thoughts on single mothers who had their
babies in bed with them infuriated me no end.  I own the book... I had to
know what all the controversy was about, and I wanted the book in my hand
when I discussed ferberizing on parenting lists or with my students and
clients.  Um... I do NOT have it displayed in my lending library.  ;)
