I think the discussion of the amounts of colostrum that mothers might obtain
is very interesting. When I had my second child some 22 years ago, I was
still nursing her older brother quite frequently. I kept my daughter in the
room with me, and nursed her very frequently during the 12 or so hours we
were there. The nurses weighed her before we went home and came back VERY
upset because she had gained weight, instead of losing it as expected. I
can't now remember how much she gained, but it was something like 2 ounces.
They told me that I was feeding her too much and it would either make her
throw up (she never spat up) or I would get very sore nipples (also didn't
happen).

Anyway, that suggests to me that fairly substantial amounts of colostrum can
be produced - although a nursing toddler seems to help!
