His last comment was the most interesting. As they got ready to leave he
asked me why he should believe  American research funded by American
dollars
done by American trained researchers with American bias over the
experiencial knowledge of his close friends who he has known for many years
and trusts a lot? I didn't know how to respond. Any comments?

Ask him if he would his friends to do gall bladder or brain surgery on his
wife just
because:
they are close
they are friends
they are ones he trusts

We have unknowing trusts in many "nameless" people that we take for
granted:
the pilot of the airliner we are flying on
the architect that designed the skyscraper we live in or walk beside
the engineer that designed the bridge we drive over
the scientists that make ABM???????????

Perhaps you should turn the tables and ask him, "Do you trust the wonderful
body of your wife to nourish your child or do you rather trust the formula
company that only is really interested in making money by selling a product
to you?
