Maka,
My understanding is that the order of priority for nutrients would
be fetus, nursing toddler, mother. So if anyone were to suffer, it would be
the mother. If she is generally in excellent health and eats really well,
including enough calories, proteins, and prenatal vitamins, I would not
worry about the toddler's health *until* or *unless* she notices a sharp
drop-off in supply during the middle of the pregnancy. Some pregnant women
find that their milk dries up almost completely, others that they can nurse
fine right up til the next baby is born. So she needs to keep a close eye
on her milk production, on her baby's weight/height/head circumference
growth, his general happiness level when nursing and right afterwards -- is
he fussy, crabby, etc. Some babies don't like the *taste* of "pregnant
milk", so that may be an issue for her and her baby as well.
