i am also extremely glad to have the data about intestinal ph differences in
breastfed versus formula fed infants. great ammunition! not even one bottle!
but a question i get so very often is, can i mix formula and breastmilk in one
bottle? it is painfully obvious that if you were to say no, the breastmilk
would be the one to go, if you must use formula anyway, it is easier to not
bother with the breastmilk, so goes the logic of so many mothers.

i had some success in proposing attachment parenting to an email mother who
was attempting to use the ferber method. she said she had difficulty letting
the baby cry because she shared a room with the older child, and the one time
they tried it, the older child became so hysterical that she insisted on
getting in the parents' bed and wouldn't sleep all the night. i pointed out
that this was a correct response to the unanswered cries of a baby as opposed
to indifference. (of course, i pointed it out so politely that i was actually
listened to.). mother is currently reading nighttime parenting. yeah! small
successes.
