I When you have done this job for a long enough time, you will see all sorts
of senieros. some of the time, full breastfeeding will not be an option.
Many of these moms are actually grateful to be given a real reason for this
happening. One woman said" Thank you, this is not my fault, I'm not DOING
something wrong". I explain that like any other body function, lactation may
not work fully for every single person. Afterall, what part of the body
works all the time in every person. Would someone feel like a failure if
their pancreas didn't produce enough insulin? I have had mothers partially
breastfeed and feel really good about their effort. One terrific mom, would
H'ordurve nurse. While the bottle of formula was warming, she soothed her
hungry baby at the breast and then fully fed by bottle. She did this for 1
year and even had questions about "weaning" . She did the same with her
second child (and had a little more milk). this mother tought me about the
devotion of motherhood and how we, as lactation consultants, are more than
about ounces of milk.
