The other issue is that we need more EFA's for every bit of trans-fats we consume and Americans consume huge amounts of trans-fats. Americans know so little about nutrition in general, and even less about fats. Fats are not bad, but most of the fats Americans eat are literally deadly--this includes most of the cooking oils used, as well as the oils in processed foods.
