Thanks to all who responded to my post.... I had posted in reaction to a
specific case, but wanted the info for my use in *any* such case.
        Unfortunately the committment to do the work to get the baby on the
breast isn't in this family. Primarily because they have two older children,
"who are fine" and were formula fed, and bc Dad is a jerk and started giving
bottles of ABM two hours after I left on day 2... For three more days my
co-leader or I have followed up and it has been left at finally convincing
dad to spring for pump rental (he balked at the price until i reminded him
of the cost of formula and his wife went to the store to prove it to him 4
days pp!! ERGH!)
        Anyway mom keeps saying she'll pump for days, weeks, months (she
varies the time every time she speaks) and give, "the right thing, the wrong
way"....
        I've given them as much info as I feel I can without saying waht I
really want to out of heartfelt frustration, "you're harming  this baby
needlessly and killing the mother too, with a family hx of breastcancer..."
and now I step aside... it is up to this family to make the decesions that
work best for their situation. I made sure they were doing it with as much
information at their disposal as possible.
        I did urge her to keep the shells I loaned her and to latch the baby
on immediately upon pumping for a couple of minutes... re-re-re-re-re
reminded her NOT to use bottles as they will create problems....but know
I'll see that baby in my neigborhood all summer sucking down ABM in bottles...
