Let me preface my reaction by saying that I don't like gadgets: not for
breastfeeding or anything else. If you came into my kitchen, you'd see
very, very few gadgets! You'd surely see my steamer insert doubling as a
colander! So I'm not saying that you need a manufactured gadget for
everything.

When we think about liability, we have to think about outcomes. If you do
something really stupid and no one ever has a bad outcome, then liability
is sort of a non-issue! If one bad outcome occurs, however, and if the
client sues because of the outcome, you want to make sure you're on very,
very stable ground in terms of following an accepted procedure, or using a
product as the manufacturer intends. At least in my experience, having
home-made anythings in the hospital opens the door for trouble.

I'm not saying that this is the way it should be, or even the way it is in
every hospital or in every country on the planet. I'm saying that people
who knowingly take the risk are braver than I am.
