About a year ago Pat Gima posted on adding gentian violet to diaper cream.
I have a client who has tried several tubes of Nystatin, and even mixed
nystatin ointment with the nystatin oral but her baby's bottom is still
horrible.

Can this ointment be used on open blisters?

This baby has open blisters, at first the doctor had been telling mom to
just use diaper rash ointment. It got worse, by the time I saw her she had
already quit using disposable diapers, wipes etc, and it was horrible still.
It looked very much like a severe yeast infection, with dime sized open
blisters. (by the way, mom did have yeast on her nipples that is cleared up
now) I recommended mom talk with pediatrician about treatment for yeast
and gave her a recipe for diaper cream that includes Balmex, Lotrimin,
Bacitracin. It started to heal only slightly and in the mean time the
pediatrician gave her a prescription for Nystatin. After 3 weeks of
treatment, the baby still has the worst case I have seen although much
better than at 1st, and there are still 1 or 2 open blisters. She wants to
try the GV ointment.
