Micaela, It was hard to sit with your story about the mom with wounded, infected
nipples, baby with tight frenula clipped but reattached, oversupply, multiple
treatments and still no relief! Others commented that maybe the multiple
treatments have contributed and that the mom's immune system may need boosting.
You had the mom discontinue the nipple soothers and get the baby's frenulum
revised again. Has the mom rinsed with warm, normal saline after feeds? I wonder
if coconut oil would soothe after the saline rinse? (Coconut oil has many of the
same fatty acids that breastmilk has.) I wonder if using a nipple shield would
help with the oversupply (so no clamping) and remove the source of friction on
the nipples while the baby learns to extend the tongue? As someone else pointed
out, it may take the baby a while to learn a new way to nurse after all this
time.Someone else asked about laid-back nursing, I wonder if that or nursing the
baby sitting up with nose above the nipple would help(straddle or clutch). Just
trying the think of something else to offer relief. I wonder if the herbalists
on the list would have any ideas. Good luck! Rowena, Texas
