I heard Lori Feldman-Winter give a talk about this a couple of months ago.  Of course I can't lay my hands on her presentation at the moment (I drown in paper)  But she said yes it matters!  Even one sip.  Have you ever read Marsha Walker's Just One Bottle? Supplementation with most anything effects the establishment of the infant's microbiome, which can have life long health consequences.  There are several issues:n 1.  does baby NEED supplementation? hypoglycemic??  The ABM Protocol #1 explains hypoglycemia and what to do. (It is availible for all to read on their website).  
2. Do mother (and family)  and HCPs really know and understand how much a newborn NEEDS in the 1st 24 hours or first few days?  It is calculated in millimeters the first day, NOT liters. As baby's body needs more, mom makes more.  It is a wonderful process that has worked for millennia :-)  Pat in SNJ
