I've been following the discussion on policies about unauthorized or
authorized drug use by mothers and breastfeeding, and suddenly it becomes
more relevant. And HI THERE Mimi! Nice to see you posting here again :-)
My question is to anyone with experience with mothers with ADHD who have
been treated with Ritalin and/or Concerta. They are the same substance,
methylphenidate, but Concerta is in a slow-release form.
The mother in question is pregnant and has stopped medication use until
after baby is born. Her GP says she may not breastfeed if she goes back on
Ritalin. She wants to breastfeed. Hale calls it an L4 - possibly harmful.
Our docs have asked li'l ol' me to find out more on the subject (yes, it's
true!).
I am wondering if anyone has any experience that would support delaying
start of medication and seeing how oxytocin and prolactin affect the ADHD,
and/or experience with babies breastfed by Ritalin using mothers.
