Kathy:
Many people have nursed while pregnant with no problems with miscarriage.
Some mothers have experienced miscarriages, but so have some who were not
nursing. So how can we say that breastfeeding was the cause? This is an
individual decision for each mother to make, weighing her own needs,
feelings, comfort, particular risks, needs of her older nursling, etc. La
Leche League has a pamplet for parents called, "Nursing Two, Is It for
You?" (# 53), which discusses these issues. Any LLL group can get it for
you. The 1997 Breastfeeding Answer Book (published by LLL) has a big
section on nursing during pregnancy (pp. 344-347). Also see "Breastfeeding
During Pregnancy" by Sherill Moscone and Mary Jane Moore, Journal of human
Lactation, Vol. 9, no. 2: 83-88, June 1993. And the Lactnet archives has
discussion on this, too.
